Santé!

Huvittelimme eilen katsomalla Michael Mooren uusimman dokkarin Sicko. En erityisemmin välitä tyypin tyylistä mutta tuo leffa sai kyllä surulliseksi. Ja onnelliseksi siitä että asumme sentään maassa jossa on yleinen maksuton terveydenhuolto. Tarkemmin ajatellen se taitaa olla kyllä yksi tärkeimmistä kriteereistä joilla valitsen asuinpaikkani olipa se sitten millä mantereella tahansa.

Siis - lyhyt selonteko heille jotka eivät vielä ole kyseistä pätkää katsoneet - leffa käsittelee yhdysvaltalaista vakuutuksin toimivaa terveydenhuoltoa jonka pitäisi toimia niin että sinulla on vakuutus joka korvaa terveyden- ja sairaanhoitokulut. Mutta eipä korvaakaan.

Tämä ei muuten ole mitään satunnaista taikka huhupuhetta. Samoin kävi hyvälle ystävälleni, kanadalaiselle joka oli vuosikausia asunut jenkeissä. Joutui jättämään hyvän työpaikkansa ja palaamaan tänne kotikonnuilleen koska vakuutus ei korvannut hänen tarvitsemaansa leikkausta. No, paluumuuttaja sai leikkauksensa täällä ilmaiseksi ja minä sain ystävän.

Terveydestä puheenollen. Onni sai tänään toisen rokotuksensa. Meillä on vara valita:

1. Rokotukset voi käydä ottamassa omalla lääkärillä ja maksaa noin 150 taalaa (tavallinen lääkärikäynti ei siis maksa mutta rokottaminen kyllä).
2. Ne voi myös käydä ottamassa terveyskeskuksessa, ilmaiseksi.
   
3. Tai vanhemmilla on vapaus jättää pienokaisensa rokottamatta jos niin haluavat.

Me valitsimme tuon vaihtoehto numero kakkosen, kuten arvata voi.

We watched yesterday Michael Moore's newest doc Sicko. I'm not the biggest fan of the guy but I have to say this film made me very sad. And happy at the same time, to be living in a country with a free universal health care. Thinking about it, that is my number one criteria when choosing a country to live.

For those who haven't seen the movie yet, it's about the health care system in the States, which is supposed to work so that you have an insurance which pays for your health care. Only that it doesn't seem to always pay.
To give more credibility to the movie, I have a friend, a Canadian who had lived south the border for years, and had to leave her well-paid job and return to Canada because her insurance wouldn't cover the operation she needed. Well, she got her operation, free, in Canada, and I got a friend!

Talking about the health care. Onni received his second vaccine today. The parents are given some options here:

1. Get the vaccine from the family doctor or paediatrician, costs about $150 per shot (going to the doctor is free but you have to pay for vaccines)
2. Get the vaccine at the health care centre. Same cocktail, free of charge.
   
3. Not to have your child vaccinated.

We opted for number two as you might have guessed.
