The difficulty of choice

Life in Finland is not so bad after all, after sauna and a good night´s sleep. Bebecito has now a stock of home-made babyfood in Mummo´s (Bebecito´s grandma) freezer and Mamacita can start to de-stress.

Now, the question is, how to plan the perfect summer in Finland. I long to spend days on end hidden from civilisation, bathing in sauna and just lounging around, reading Finnish literature and meeting up with friends and relatives at their cottages. Then again, every Finnish village and town offers its best from June to August: there are countless exhibitions, festivals and open air theatre productions, some of which must be just a scam to rid the ignorant tourist of her time and money, but others seem indeed worth visiting.

Leafing through a summer guide to the region of Savo (the most beautiful part of Finland which makes part of the Lake District as well), I find an exhibition of Leonardi da Vinci´s inventions at Retretti, Puustock (puu meaning wood) festival dedicated to Finnish Rock in my hometown Juva, Sanghai Opera visiting Savonlinna Opera Festival (where obviously the tickets are out of my reach but it would be nice to go hang around the old castle getting into the cosmopolitan mood in my college town), a tour to see pre-historical rock wall paintings in Puumala where Ukko (Bebecito´s grandpa) lives, jazz concert on a steam boat cruising on Lake Saimaa (in Puumala, courtesy of Imatra Big Band Festival), the list goes on... and in addition there is a myriad of interesting craft shops and ateliers, coffee shops and restaurants, animal farms and other places to visit.

Well, ahead with planning. However, I bet this summer will be an enjoyable one, even if I didn´t get down to any of the above. The motto is: no stress.

PS.
